The co-op survival game Backroom Company has officially left Early Access and launched into version 1.0 on Steam today, July 30. Developed by South Korean indie studio Hypercent, the game expands on its liminal horror premise with new content, exclusive cosmetics, and Steam Deck support to mark the full release.
If you’re unfamiliar with Backroom Company, we previously covered the game during its Early Access phase. Check out our earlier article for a full breakdown of how it blends strategic co-op gameplay with the mythos of the Backrooms — a shared universe of endless, unsettling spaces.
In short, Backroom Company is a mission-driven co-op game where you and your friends explore different Backrooms levels to investigate anomalies and collect items needed to meet a quota. Along the way, you gradually uncover more about the theatrically evil company sending you on these missions.
The 1.0 update brings several major additions designed to flesh out the game’s late-game content and expand its accessibility. Here’s what players can expect from the official launch:

To celebrate the 1.0 launch, Hypercent is offering a limited-time 15% discount on Steam. Players who log in during the launch event will also receive a free Pumpkin head skin. Seven additional skins are also available at discounted prices.
While Backroom Company is often compared to Escape the Backrooms and Lethal Company, it quickly establishes its own identity. We’ve been playing the game over the past week and found it to be a fun, tense co-op experience that blends familiar elements like proximity chat and procedural levels with some clever ideas of its own.

Features like the mission timer, which adds a constant sense of pressure and leads to some genuinely chaotic final minutes, give missions a satisfying sense of urgency. We also loved the cable-laying system, which lets you mark your path and find your way back — something more co-op horror games could benefit from.
We’ll be sharing our full impressions soon, but so far Backroom Company feels like a smart, fresh entry in the genre and one that’s worth keeping an eye on post-launch.
