It’s been a jam-packed State of Play for PlayStation this year – an extended look at Marvel’s Wolverine, a release date trailer for Silent Hill: Townfall, and now the unexpected news that 2015’s Until Dawn is getting a sequel, over a decade later.
Whilst the original game was created by Supermassive Games, who later went on to create The Dark Pictures Anthology and The Quarry in a similar style, the development of this sequel is being entrusted to Firesprite, a first-party studio at PlayStation. They previously worked on Horizon Call of the Mountain, a VR game set in the Horizon: Zero Dawn universe.

The sequel will feature a brand-new story and cast, but retain the Butterfly Effect choice and consequence system, which makes your actions and relationships throughout the story have an impactful sway over the story, including whether certain characters die or survive … until dawn.
We even see this in action in the trailer: one choice sees a character attempt to escape a pursuer by jumping off a cliff, only to end up with a rather rocky demise.
The most noticeable change is that Until Dawn 2 swaps the snowy mountains of the original with an abandoned tropical island. Rather than a group of friends partying it up at a chalet, you follow a TV crew behind the show Dead True as they document the supernatural. Though, of course, they’ve never actually encountered any real horrors until they reached the island.
Just because they are co-workers doesn’t mean that things don’t get raunchy however, as the trailer hints at several ongoing relationships (and probably situationships) between characters, so be prepared for some workplace-drama among the killing.
Oh, and one other thing, the game casts none other than Neil Newbon (yes – Astarion from Baldur’s Gate 3), so now it’s a must-play!

The game will be launching in 2027, and we’ll be getting further details on the sequel later this year. Stay tuned at JumpScared as more info is shared, and check out the trailer below:
