Official Halloween Game Announced for 2026 Release

Horror fans are eating good this year. After the single-player Hellraiser game announcement in July, now Michael Myers is officially getting the video game treatment (outside of Dead by Daylight), with IllFonic, the studio behind Predator: Hunting Grounds and Friday the 13th: The Game, announcing a new licensed Halloween game set for release in 2026.

Authentic 1978 Haddonfield

The game takes place on Halloween night 1978 in the quiet suburban town of Haddonfield, recreating the setting and atmosphere of John Carpenter’s original film. IllFonic is developing the game with publishing support from Gun Interactive, known for Friday the 13th: The Game and The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, and they’ve partnered directly with the original Halloween producers Malek Akkad and Ryan Freimann to ensure authenticity.

“Working with Malek Akkad and Ryan Freimann, the films’ original producers, Compass, and Further Front has given us amazing insight and guidance into this quintessential horror IP,” says Charles Brungardt, CEO at IllFonic.

The team has been recreating 1978 Haddonfield as a period-accurate environment, complete with iconic locations from the film like the Myers House. Using Unreal Engine 5, they’re aiming to capture the exact look and feel of that specific era, down to the 70s style and decor.

Horror Sandbox Gameplay

Halloween is being designed as what IllFonic calls a “horror sandbox,” emphasizing replayability and dynamic gameplay experiences. The game will feature both single-player and 1v4 asymmetrical multiplayer modes, with the single-player story mode putting players in the shoes of Michael Myers himself as he stalks through 1978 Haddonfield.

“We’ve built a suburban playground brimming with endless opportunities that empowers players to star in their own horror movies, where their choices decide the fates of everyone around them,” shares Jordan Mathewson, Design Director at IllFonic.

Coming in 2026

The Halloween game is targeting a 2026 release, giving IllFonic plenty of time to nail the authentic recreation of Carpenter’s masterpiece. For a franchise that essentially created the blueprint for modern slasher films, the pressure is on to deliver something worthy of the legacy.

We’ll have more details on gameplay modes and mechanics as they’re revealed. Stay tuned to JumpScared! for more coverage on the upcoming Halloween game. Check out the reveal trailer below:
