Gloomy Eyes: Tim Burton-Inspired Horror Adventure Finally Gets September 12th Release Date

Picture this: humanity screwed up so badly that the sun literally abandoned Earth, leaving everyone trapped in eternal darkness. Now, a zombie boy and a human girl have to team up to fix our mess. That’s the premise of Gloomy Eyes, which just announced its September 12, 2025 release date for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch.

A Delightfully Dark Fairy Tale

Gloomy Eyes tells the story of two unlikely companions in a world where humanity’s own stupidity caused the sun to abandon them entirely. You play as both Gloomy, a sweet zombie boy, and Nena, a mischievous human girl, who must work together to restore daylight to their eternally dark realm.

Instead of the typical zombie apocalypse where the undead are mindless monsters, these two characters forge a forbidden friendship that defies the conflict between the living and undead.

Self Co-Op Meets Diorama Design

What makes Gloomy Eyes particularly interesting is its “self co-op” gameplay. You control both protagonists in a single-player experience, switching between Gloomy and Nena to utilize their unique abilities and solve environmental puzzles.

The game takes place across handcrafted dioramas that you can view and rotate from different angles. Each diorama is packed with secrets and puzzles, and the rotatable perspective sounds like it could add a really satisfying tactile element to exploration.

No Jump Scares, Just Spooky Charm

The developers explicitly mention this focuses on “spooky charm” and atmosphere rather than gore or jump scares. It’s horror for people who love the aesthetic and macabre themes but might not want to be genuinely frightened.

Gloomy Eyes launches September 12 with extensive language support across multiple regions. The Tim Burton inspiration is immediately obvious from the trailer, and if they can nail that blend of whimsical darkness, this could be something special.
