Investigate the Minotaur is an MK Challenge in The Outlast Trials, introduced in October 2025. It takes place on the Shopping Mall map, with the prime assets Otto and Arora Kress.
In this trial, players must find evidence in the Spatlin store, and return it to the journalist at the loading dock, near the start of the trial.
This guide explains how to complete the Investigate the Minotaur MK Challenge in The Outlast Trials, with practical tips to help you survive and hopefully earn an A+ grade.
Find evidence in the Spatlin store
You start the trial in the loading dock. From here, you need to make your way to the Spatlin store at the other side of the shopping mall. Just continue straight from the spawn point, and you should see signs pointing the way to the Spatlin store – it is quite far away, so just keep that in mind.
Once you reach the Spatlin store, you’ll see two fuses near the entrance on the ground floor.
Take a fuse, head up the escalator to the second floor, and go to the Prescriptions area of the pharmacy (in the back right of the room). Put the fuse into the fuse box, which will open up a small back area, where you’ll find the box of evidence.

At this point, the prime asset Otto and Arora Kress will be released into the trial onto the main concourse of the shopping mall.
Deliver the evidence to the journalist
The main mechanic in this MK challenge is that the evidence cannot be carried through the Heavy Object Gates. As such, you need to use the fuses to open up the large rolling gates next to the heavy object gates, so that you can pass through with the evidence.

The first of these heavy object gates will block your exit from the Spatlin store. Follow the wire from the top of the rolling gate to find the connected fuse box, which will be located somewhere near to the gate on the top floor. Once you place the fuse inside, the rolling gates will lift up, allowing you to pass through with the evidence. Remember to pop back inside (without the evidence of course), to grab the fuse so it can be used again later.
Alternatively, you can head back down the elevator and use the fuse boxes where you found the fuses in the first place to open the front gate of the Spatlin store.
Now, you’ll need to head back through the shopping mall towards the loading dock, but you’ll run into three sets of heavy object gates on the way. For each of them, you’ll need to follow the wire to the associated fuse box. For the next three, they will be located within other stores in the shopping mall, such as the Pet Store, or the Musical Instruments store.

It’s random which store the fuse box is located in for each gate. Also, note that the wire might lead you to a store that’s in the next section forward (i.e. you might have to walk through the heavy object gate to get to the correct store).
Once you find the correct store, you’ll need to put the fuse inside, then return outside the store to bring the evidence through the rolling gate. Fortunately, using the fuse will open the front of that particular store, providing you with an easy route back to the main concourse.
You then should go back into the store to recollect the fuse. When you take the fuse out, this will close the front gates of the store, meaning you have to go out the back entrance to reach the main shopping concourse.
Once you’ve done this for all 3 gates, then you’ll need to put the evidence in the trunk of the journalist’s car, just to the left side of the shuttles.

Before you leave, remember to complete the secondary objective. If you don’t, then you won’t be able to earn an A+ grade.
The Best Rig for Investigate the Minotaur
I find the Stun rig to be super useful in this trial. When you are recollecting the fuse from one of the stores, there’s often an enemy that spawns right near the store’s back entrance. Since it’s a tight space, there’s a chance that you’ll run into an enemy without much room to dodge past them, so I usually have the Stun rig equipped just in case I need to quickly stun them and run past.
The Best Amps/Prescriptions
If you are playing solo, I’d recommend the Smash amp – this lets you break co-op doors by yourself. This is because there’s a secret area behind a co-op door, which houses a button that unlocks two gates, which provides you with extra routes to traverse around the map.

Find the co-op door at the Main plaza – inside, use the button to open two gates with new routes.
Because you’ll need to carry around the fuse throughout the trial, you might also want to run the Backpack amp (+1 inventory slot), so you can carry the fuse as well as other useful items such as bricks, bottles and healing items.
