The fan-run Dead by Daylight League (DBDL) is stepping into the spotlight with some major news. As of June 21st, the league now has official support from Behaviour Interactive, the developers of Dead by Daylight.
Behaviour did try to have its own official competitive scene with the Community Cups, but these were discontinued at the end of 2023. Now, they’re turning to the 7-year old league created and run by fans to get the competitive side of the game out there.
The announcement was made via the DBDL Discord server by organiser Savanna, and also on stream. It outlined the three core pillars of the new partnership:
These pillars aim to bring more attention than ever to the competitive Dead by Daylight scene through a range of improvements, including:
This isn’t it either. The most exciting news comes at the end of the post: a LAN event is coming in 2026! Details are still under wraps, but we do know that it will be hosted in Frankfurt, Germany.
On the stream, the league’s creator Dir3Wolf spoke with the Lead Community Manager at Behaviour, MandyTalk. She reaffirmed fans that “just because we are supporting DBD League and the comp scene, people don’t need to panic that we’ll now be changing the game for the competitive size”.
During the mini-interview, Mandy also touched upon the recent news that Dead by Daylight surpassed its Steam player count record, emphasising how Dead by Daylight is still growing and reaching new heights, and hopefully can elevate DBDL’s popularity alongside the main game.
This announcement comes a month after the Year 10 roadmap, which teased upcoming improvements to the custom game spectating experience. Right now, spectating custom trials is plagued by bugs and visual glitches, which limits production value. These planned in-game fixes, combined with the League’s refreshed branding, should give competitive Dead by Daylight a much-needed boost in polish and professionalism.
As someone who’s been a huge fan of the League ever since watching my first competitive match earlier this year, I can’t wait to see what’s next.
